British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a combined operation against an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory operated by the Daesh militant organization, according to the British defence ministry.
The facility, located using intelligence, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was located in mountainous terrain just north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to strike a number of approach shafts down to the depot... preliminary assessments are that the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
IS - alternatively referred to as Daesh - established extremist governance over large swathes of Iraq and Syria until 2019.
"This action demonstrates the UK's leading role, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to eliminate any revival of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the Middle East," Britain's Defence Chief the Defence Secretary said.
British military aircraft have carried out patrols over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of Islamic State following its military defeat at the battle of Baghuz in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to all the members of our armed forces participating in this strike for their expertise and their bravery," Healey said. "They were among a great many British troops on duty over the holidays. This operation, to take out terrorist threats who threaten our way of life, highlights how British military are always on standby, continuously, protecting the UK at home and powerful internationally."
During December, the United States armed forces executed what it described as a "major assault" targeting IS targets in Syria, subsequent to an attack killed two US servicemembers and a civilian linguist in Palmyra.
The UN says Daesh still has between 5,000 and 7,000 fighters in both countries.
